Ten crews entered for the trial fours, and each beat w»» closely contested. In the iftrs-t best t.jc crew stroAed by J. A. Gentles soon 0.tained a lead from the other two crews. which were stroked by J. deal and W. Belcher respectively, and the lead was maintained until the post was reached. Clears crew being secondFour crew-i contested the second heat, the strokes being- Sinel, King, »*. Cow. and Gillairn. King's crow led for a while, but was soon pusßed by Gow, which crew in turn gave way to Sinel. About 100 yds from tho post Gow's' crew spurted, and succeeded in gainia? th • -veniict by "ft, Gillairn 'a crew being third. King's crew retired m the latter stages oj the race. Crews stroked by J. Connon. Gillord, and C. Dromgool eo:6t.?stcd the third heat. Connon's crew winning easily from Dromgool. The following crews contested the final: —J. A. Gentles istroko. Collinson, Light foot, and u'alsh: J. <iaw (stroke), King, Forbes, and Johnston; J. Ccnnon (stroke). Beaumont, Green, art! Bruce. The boats went away well togetJicr. but Gentle's crew had a lead of half a. length from Connon at halfwav. Gow's crew then made an effort and passed Coiunm. but was unable to reach Gentles, who w»n by a canvas. ttDnnou being a similar distance away third. Mr. W. J. Barker sot the crews away splendidly, and the club captain made an impartial judge. Trial fours for trophies presented by Mr. Wm. Coleman (president) will be rowed on Saturday. November 16. Entries close at the boathouse on Saturday next.
NORTH SHORE CLUB. Trial fours were rowed by members of the North Shore Club at Devonport on Saturday, the following being the results: — First Heat: F- Bennett (Stroke), 1; R. Spinier. 2: A. Stephenson. 3. Second Heat; E. 'Bailey. 1; P. Stephenson. 2; Mcllwraitlu 3. Third Heat: W. "Vrynyard, 1; D. Law. 2; Seg'ar.' 3. Final: F. Bennett. 1 ; IV. Wynyard, 2; E Bailey, 3. Bennett's crew won easily by two lengths.
