Saturday /afternoon witnessed the opening: of most of the clubs in and around! the city, the West End Club being the only club that has not yet opened for the season. REMUERA CLUB. The Remuera Club was officially declared open bv Mr. Mulgan. who, in an appropriate speech, welcomed the new members to the club, and wished the club a successful season. The early part of the afternoon was given over to progressive tennis. PARNELL CLUB. The Parnell Club opened ' its lawn* for play on Saturday afternoon. The grounds were in good order, ami there was a very large attendance of the members and their friends. ~ DEVONTORT CLUB. The lawns of the Devonport Club were opened for the season by the president, Mr. Thos. Macfcy, who referred to the past history of the club, and extended a welcome to the new members. A large number of visitors were present at the opening. VISIT OF ENGLISH TEAMThe Auckland Lawn Tennis Association has received a, letter from the secretary of the Mew Zeala?id Association, stating that, if possible, a test match. New £««- land v. the English team, will be played in Auckland instead of the *nss*-*t*d ; mixed match.
