PROPOSAL TO FILL VACANCY.

The Royal Choral Society waiteu on the Finance Committee of the City Council in reference to the position of city organist, which is being vacated by Mr. Maughan Barnett, who is going to Auckland. Mr. Harnett is also conductor of the Royal Choral Society, and the society now proposes that applications be invited in England from musicians. Four hundred pounds will be given as salary- by the Council and £100 by the society. A committee in England is to reduce the applications to three, the society having the right to veto one of those three if desired and the Council then make a final selection.
