Tuck auditor for the year. , NEW • WAITAIA The drive, south from, the north crosscut in the New Waitaia mine, : Kuaoturiu,- is in 36ft,past the Crosscut.v The manager reports that the country is as good'as, that in. the north fade, and that the reef, although showing conglomerate formation halfway down the drive, is carrying quartz all along the back, which gives really good Drospecte of fine gold. This now makes 300 ft of highly payable ' ground opened up. The leading stope going ;north, from the main rise is beaten 35ft, with a nice reef in the face 9in to 12in wide, showing gold freely. , MOUNTAIN KING. The main north drive at the Mountain King mine, Kuaotsmu, was extended' 7ft during the week, in a nice class of solid country. The manager considers that the reef should come to hand at any time nOw , if the country, continues the same as at pre- . sent. , The cast crosscut was extended 10ft during ,th© week in » nice firm class of country. In the stopes above No.: ; 5 level, the No. 5 stop© north was carried along a distance of lift. No reef has been broken down at present. 7 No. 6 slope north Vas advanced 3ft, making a total distance of 20ft from the main rise. Little work" was done in the stope south of the main rise. Te AnonA, Thursday. • At the Warden's Court to-day before Mr. F. V. Frazer, Mr.. Gilchrist, solicitor for Hardy Mines,, Limited, applied for six months' protection for five leases held by the company. Mr. Angus Gordon, one of the directors, stated that the leases had been held 'for over 10 years, during which time £20,000 had been spent. The application was granted. ,'■'" '■:■ ■ : NOTES. The rise over the western level . in the Handsworth mine, Kuaotunu,•■: has connected with the winze from the surface level. Tho drive on the new lead is in,. a total distance of 68ft, and has functioned with what the. manager considers to bo the main lead. It will open up new country when it connects with the Lady Carrington level. A prospecting " cuddy "is being driven north of the stopes about thei> same height as the western level. The manager considers that indications are very favourable, as dish prospects' show a good deal of cinnabar, with occasional colours of coarse gold. ;.,';. ■ t The statutory half-yearly : report of the ' directors of the Saxon Gold Mining Company, Limited, states that.the contract for deepening the company's main shaft a further distance of 100 ft. is ck«?e_ on completion. When this work is finished another level, 'to be known as No.. 7, will be opened out. This new level will be, vertically 100 ft below the present lowest level (No. 6), and will give , a very large block of unexploited country to develop. '■■ Tho proposed new level (No. 7} will be driven to a point vertically under the winze which was sunk 25ft, and with which it is proposed to make a connection. The air com-, pressing plant has been, re-erected to enable the rock drills' to -boused in carrying out further mininc; operations. • This willgreatly decrease the cost of. the '"work. The balance-sheet shows a credit balance , Of £136 17s.- ■-;
