THROUGH AMERICAN ; TERRI
TORY.
A REBEL'LEADER DEFEATED.
Bj Telegraph.— Association.
(Received September 11, 10.10 p.m.) Washington, September 11. The American Government has agreed to grant a request from the Mexican Government to permit the transference •of Mexican troops through the United States territory in order to enable them to attack the rebels in the Sonora State.
This decision. ,is likely to inflame the rebels further; against the Americans residing in the disturbed areas. The Department of State announces the defeat •of the rebel leader, General Halazer. -. It is expected that as the rebels are driven southwards there will be fewer clashes with the United States troops who are engaged in maintaining neutrality. 1 •
It was : reported about firo weeks ago that General Halazer had declared that unless the United States, intervened in tho Mexican trouble, the rebels would begin to kill every American they could-, lay hold of. "And." added tho rebel commander, "wo will keep up the massadre until America is forced to cross the border." This course of. aGtion, ho further stated.',was to be taken under direct orders from General Orozco, Command'or-in-chief. of tho rebel army. All American subjects in Northern Mexico werb "officially" notified by the'rebel commanders that they must either leave tho country, or take up arms against the Madero Government.-'
