BRITISH MARKS OF RESPECT. ANGLO-JAPANESE ALLIANCE. FIRM AND ENDURING BASIS. By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright. London, July 31. A motion of condolence with the Japanese nation in the death of the late Mikado was moved in the House of Commons to-day by the Prime Minister (Mr. Asquith). He emphasised the remarkable changes in the late Mikado's reign, and said that Britain's alliance, with Japan rested on a firm and enduring foundation. Mr. Bonar Law (Leader of the Opposition) seconded the motion, j which was carried unanimously. In the House of Lords, in the presence of the Japanese Ambassador, Lords Crewe and Landsdowne paid graceful tributes to the life of the Mikado. Calcutta, July 31. The Government offices in India were closed to-day as a mark of sympathy with the Japanese people in the death of their late Emperor.
