CANTERBURY DEFEATS NORTHERN COUNTRY TEAM.

North Island Country Unions, was played. at Lancaster Park this afternoon under very bad weather- conditions. The Playing area was) very sodden as the result of the extremely bad weather experienced, and witn this state of affairs prevailing high-class football was out of the question. Mors in, and Sergison, then took play to the blacks' 23, but Kaipara and Montgomery again sent play back, and Lcnnard narrowly missed a score as haifrtimo sounded. Soon after the start of the second spell fast following up by Parson ended in a score. North Island .. 11 Canterbury 6 Play continued in favour of Canterbury, and Cummings and Morgan headed a forward rush, and tho ball shooting out wa« secured by MaoDoaald, who raced over at ; tho corner. Doell failed to convert. TARANAKI V. SOUTHERN COUNTRY UNIONS. HOME TEAM'S EASY WIN. [BY TELEGRAPH.rtIESS ASSOCIATION.] STRATFORD, Thursday. Tho South- Island country renresentatives played tho second match of their tour at Stratford to-day, when ■ Taranaki defeated them by 31 points to 3. The ground was fast and the weather line save for showers at the closing stage. In the first spell the visitors by excellent line kicking and good forward play held their own, but collapsed in the second half- Taranaki were without tho services of Roberts, but, the team was considerably strengthened through the inclusion of Don Cameron, who made his first appearance this season in representative football. From tho kick-oft" South Island vanguard shone out and Forbes scored in the first flvo minutes, Church failing with tho kick. Hawkins took play to the country representatives' line, where from a scrum he crossed tho line. Stohr failed to convert. From a serum in mid-field. Brown secured and a passing run, in which Don Cameron, S. Cameron, MoLeod, and Stohr participated, ended in the lartnamed scoring. Ho took the kick himself and landed a splendid goal. South had three ineffectual attempts at goal from good positions. Tho second spell opened with a try by Don Cameron, as the result of combined play by Brown and S. Cameron. Stohr added the major points. McLeod marked in Smith's 25, and Stohr landed a magnificent goal. S. Cameron made an opening and after half the Taranaki team had handled tho ball, Stohr touched down. His kick failed. McLcod made a dodgy run and whipped out to Don Cameron, who got over at tho corner. Stohr failed to convert. A passing rush by the Taranaki hacks ended in Don Cameron being collared, hut he secured again and potted a great goal.
