SHOOTING SEASON CLOSING
POOR SPORT OBTAINED.
The shoofiTiig season, which closes next Wednesday, has not produced very good sport in the Auckland district. The wet weather which prevailed in December killed a large proportion of the young pheasants, and when sportsmen went into the country with dog and gun they found only last season's birds, and few of these. Altogether, the season has been most disappointing throughout the district.
An Auckland sportsman pointed out to a Herald representative last night that it was proposed to have a close season next year, but he thought in view of the failure of the past season to provide good sport that the Government should consider the advisability of issuing licenses' next year. The young pheasants at Okoroire are reported to be in good condition, and about 200 birds are now ready for distribution^
