Wednesday being Arbor Day the boys of the Central Public School planted a number of native shrubs and trees in the school grounds, the planting being carried) out wider the supervision of the Mayor (Mr. J. Newtli). The headmaster (Mr. A. H. Bongo) and male assistant teachers, and Air. Kalaughcr, the Board's inspector of agriculture, were present. At a meeting of the committee of the Waihi /Federal brass band, held on Tuesday evening,; Mr. A. Gillott > resigned the office of secretary. Hie resignation was received with regret. Itwaa decided that all band property should be stored in the Borough Council chambers until such time as it is again required. The band will not resume until after the strike has be&i settled. ' CAMBRIDGE. THE , BEDSHAW FUND. The case of the little lad, Clyde Redshaw, who, as the result of an accident tvliilo crossing the railway line at Huritly, had both hands amputated, has aroused the sympathetic interest of local Residents, and a considerable amount has already been collected. * ;/ A meeting of the committee of the Carnegie Library was held on Monday evening, the Veu. Archdeacon . Walsh presiding. The balance-sheet showed, a credit balance of £49 Is 3d. The chairman gave notice to Wjove that, subject to the approval of the Borough Council, ■ arrangements should be made to have, the readingroom open on Sundays from 3 to 5 p.m.
