THE BANK OF NEW ZEALAND.
Sir,—Kindly permit mo space through, , your paper to eay a 'word or two respecting > the above institution. As one who has been . a depositor in the . Bank of New Zealand for a considerable number of years, I cannot but feel pleased at the flourishing state of the bank as depicted in. the ; report and bali.nce-Bheet submitted to tlie annual meetL ing of shareholders hold at Wellington, on L Wednesday last, and I feel rare it -will be - gratifying to all shareholders to learn that a > dividend equivalent to 15 per cent. for the » i year has • been declared by the directors. > There is just ( one question I should'.like to L put to the directors of the bank, however, and that is, would it -not be advisable, now that the bank is in such a - sound state financially, to allow depositors interest on current accounts? Surely the time is oppor-' > tune for the introduction "of a reform of this character, and this would not involve a very I heavy expenditure for the bank, and prove f an inestimable i boon to depositors, besides > causing a large increase in the number of . depositors consequent on this concession. I P sincerely hope that the directors will before . long give this matter their serious consideraj * ,on < as I feel euro they must realise that [ the . interests of depositors a concession of this kind is needed.
