NORTH COTE CARGO FERRY.;

Sir,—Oil Jim© 4 I bought about 300 ft of timber from an Auckland sawmill for i : my own use, expecting to receive it at Northoot© Wharf in the usual way by cargo ferry. I received a notice that the timber was ready, and that I- must send a Northcote carter to fetch it. On inquiry,. 1 found that the Ferry Company refuse loose timber* there being flo landing-stag© at the Northcoto "Wharf. A carter from there must take his waggon, about, four miles round to the Birkenhead landing-stage, cross in the ferry, .load up, | and return the same way. The carters will not cross unless they have a full load, so that they do not cross often, and when they do they cannot always pick .up a small lot. My timber is still at the sawmill, and as far as I can see is likely to remain there, be- ' cause the Ferry Company out in foolish > restrictions to hamper settlement on this • side. v Veritas. Northcote, June 19, 1912. ,V : ;
