YACHTING. NOTES AND COMMENTS. The " Victoria Cruising Club will re-sail its championship races for 22-footers and 26footers next Saturday. The sale is reported of tho large patiki Maroondah, lately owned by _ Mr. W. R. Miliken, of Devonport, to a Napier yachtsman. Tho Maroondah lias had a splendid racing record. She will be shipped to Nanier shortly. • The 30 yachts which competed in the Victoria Cruising Club's general handicap race last Saturday made a magnificent spectacle as they went down the harbour. The boats were well bunched together at the starting-line. Dccima. was first over, followed by Sceptre, Acacia, Waitere, Arcadia. Hetty, Ngaro, Dulcie, with the rest in a. bunch. On the reach down the harbour Sadie,/ Wait-ore, Calypso, i>garo, Arcadia, and Venus came through, and they rounded the Squadron Buoy in that order, with the others well spread out, Eileen being lastAfter rounding the Squadron Buoy Calypso, Ngaro, Venus. _ Rangatira, and Sceptre worked along Narrow Neck shore, the rest standing across to Rangitoto. Narrow Neck proved / the 'best leg, as Calypso caught Sadie and Waitere, and after a good contest with Sadie rounded the Saltworks buoy first, with . Sadie about_ 3s. behind,' then coming Waitere, Rangatira, Venus, Ngaro, Sceptre, Eileen, etc. Spinnakers were soon set for Point Resolution Buoy, where Calvpso was still leading, with Sadie, second and Waitere third. Rangatira retired at North Head,- Venus and Ngaro taking a step up._ On the lead.up to the finishingline Sadie caught and passed Calypso,' and finished' first at sh. 23m. 455. . PONSONBY CRUISING CLUB. . The Ponsonby Yacht and Launch Cruising Club will hold its final cruising race to-day for yachts and launches. The course will be from flagship moored off clubhouse, St. Mary's Bay, _ direct to Matiatia. Tho entries and handicaps for ths yacht race are: Glady. scratch Foam, lm. SOs.; Acacia, lm. 45a.; Alice, 9m-; Waitangi, 12m. Tho entries fop the launch race are: Waharoa, Kotiri, Alwyn, Tamahine, Waimumu, and C. and B. Tho handicaps for the launch race will be declared this morning. , . , The yacht race will start at 2.30. and , the launch race at 2.45 p.m. Mr. Chan. Butles wilt act as starter, and Mr. A. Mathieson. as judge and timekeeper. * . v \ MANUKAU CLUB. ~"'t& The Manukau Yacht' and Motor Boat Club will hold its annual race for the Baglev memorial, medals to-day. Those medals are presented each year by the club's president, Mr- Chaa. BagJey, in memory of his son Albert, a former member of the club, who was drowned in the wreck of tho a.s. Aotea on the east coast. . The' competition for the medals invariably raises a largo amount of interest among the boating fraternity on the Manukau, and, as a record field is handicapped for each event, 5 this year's races promise to bo particularly keen. - 1 . Red buoy off Horn to bo kept on port side going" down, and on starboard side when returning.
AMONG THE MOTOR-BOATS. Tho launches Gretchen,, Elsie, and Volunteer wero at Motuihi on Sunday. ' i Tho launch Ikarero spent the week-end at Hawaii. ,
The Virginia. Mr. W. H. Hazard's launch, ■went to the Watchman for the week-end after spending the first ninht at Port Jackson. The first hapuku caught weighed close 011 901b. Unfortunately the presence of sharks, six of which were caught, spoilt tho fishing.
