ONE MONTH FOR THEFT.

At the Police Court yesterday, before Mr. E. C. Cutten, S.M., Jas. Lester, who was seen to take a pair of boots from a shop and walk away with them hidden under his coat, was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. RESISTING THE POLICE. Wm. Tansley was charged with insobriety and resisting the police. Sub-In-spector lleiulrey said accused was refused a drink in an hotel, and persisted in remaining until a constable ejected him. Disregard of the constable's advice to go homo resulted in his arrest. He resisted violently, and then collected "ono of those delightful crowds that gather occasionally in Auckland." The constable had to handcuff his man, the crowd hooted, and matters were looking serious when some members of the detective service camo on the sccno and assisted the constable. Accused was sentenced to one month's hard labour. MISCELLANEOUS. Insobriety cost Alfred Newland 10s, Wm. Scott Carroll £1, one first offender ss, rSta two others their bail (£1). An, old woman, named Katherine Beilly, was sentenced to three months' hard labour for vagrancy. Arthur John Filzgibbons was fined £2 lor breaking his prohibition order. Edward Rogers was fined 5s for allowing his horse to wander. An inefficiently lighted vehicle cost Ehenezer Pearce 'ss. das. French, who left his cab without chaining the wheel, was ordered to pay costs, 7s. Robert Bryan was fined £2 for obscenity. 11. D. Spinley and C. Dromgool, who were before the "Court last week,' charged with failing to render service as required by the Defence Act. and who have since complied with the law, were ordered to pay costs, 7s each.
