Several papers announce that Lieutenant Brandon (who with Captain Trench was last year sentenced to a long terra of imprisonment for espionage) attempted to escape from the fortress at Wesel. He filed the bars of the window of his cell and reached the courtyard by means of a rope. He was recaptured by a sentry. ARREST OF A STOKER. London, February 24. A German stoker, who is a naturalised Englishman, has been arrested for espionage at Christiania aboard H.M.S. Foxhound, in which he served for eight months. He was discovered making notes in cypher, and was conveyed in irons to Chatham.
