Twenty thousand vine-dressers at Ay have struck for an increase of pay. They demand six francs and three bottles of wine daily in March and April, and 3.\ francs and two bottles of wine in winter. The Miners' Congress at Angers has declared in favour of a 24 hours' strike on March 11 in order to influence Parliament to grant their demands. Possibly there will be a general strike later if the demands are not conceded. The French miners are demanding a pension of two francs a day at the age of 50, after 25 years' work.
