AUSTRALASIAN PROGRESS.

CAN CARRY MANY MILLIONS. EMIGRANTS AND TRANSPORT. By Telegraph—Press AnocUUon.—Copyright ("Received February 23, 9.40 p.m.) London, February 23. The British Australasian estimates that the Commonwealth is in danger of losing 50,000 emigrants this year through insufficiency of transport accommodation. A paper was read at the London School of Economics on the progress of Australia and New Zealand. Sir Win. Hall-Jones, High Commissioner for New Zealand, presided. It was stated that Australia and New Zealand were destined at no distant date to carry a population of scores of millions. They were essentially white men's countries. The paper detailed reasons for anticipating rapid and giant strides, and blamed the Governments for not having secured adequate passenger services. Mr. Coghlan, Agent-General for New South Wales, says that the latter remark does not apply to his State, which has secured .nil the accommodation required.
