PERSIA AND THE POWERS
INTEGRITY REMAINS INTACT A RUSSIAN WITHDRAWAL. By Teiegraph.— Press Association.— London, February 22. In the House of Commons Mr. Arthur A. Ponsonby, Liberal member for Stirling Burghs, moved an amendment to the Address-in-Reply, condemning the Government's failure to preserve the integrity of Persia. Sir Edward Grey, Secretary for Foreign Affairs, refuted the charge that strategic interests had been damaged, and said that some of the Russian troops had been already withdrawn. The Government was assured that the rest would follow. Russia, was also entitled to defend her strategic interests. The AngloRussian agreement limited the action of both Powers. Russia's influence in Northern Persia was unaffected, as it existed prior to the agreement. The amendment was withdrawn.
