COUNTRY NEWS.

WAIHI. [BY telegraph.-—own CORRESPONDENT.] Waiut, Friday. The monthly meeting of the Waihi Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. J. Newth) presiding. Tho National Bank advised that £139 17a 9d (including goldfields revenue £137 9s 9d) had been placed to the credit of tho district fund account, which showed a debit balance of £12,749 ss, with gold duty outstanding and duo £2246. Declarations wore received announcing the purchase of 14,309 ounces of gold within the borough.

Classes in connection with tho Waihi Technical School will bo commenced shortly in temporary . premises, pending tho completion of the new school building now in 'course of erection. Mrs. Foster Donny, instructress in cookery, will- conduct classes, and a class in woodwork for amateurs will bo conducted by Mr. A. T. Smith. PAEROA. [by telegraph.—own correspondent.] Paeroa, Friday. At the annual meting of subscribers of the Paeroa Public Library Mr. H. 0. Searle (chairman of tho Library Committee) presided. The report showed that 50 new books had been added during the year, making the total 1852. The bal-ance-sheet showed a credit balance of £4 9s sd. The following were elected a committee for tho ensuing year :Mrs. Adnams, Miss Shaw, Messrs. Searle, Hanna, Inglis, Black, and Do Castro. At a subsequent meeting of the committee Mr. H. 0. Searle was re-elected chairman, Mr. D. T. Inglis secretary and treasurer, and Mr. E. Quick auditor. It was decided to hold a public meeting for tho purpose of appointing trustees for the library site secured from tho Government in Normanby Road.

At the meeting of the Paoroa Chamber of Commerce this week several important notices of motion were given to be discussed at the meeting next week. Mr. Hanna gave notice to discuss the formation of a special rating district to raise a lo • u for the formation and metalling of the N'etherton-Kerepehi Road. Mr. Adnai. ; gave notice to discuss the necessity for anew post office, and Mr. McWatters gav** notico to discuss tho question of st6r?- a banks along the river to prevent the flooding of Paeroa.

COROMANDEL. fBY TELEGRAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.] Coromandel, Friday. For the extraordinary vacancy on the Coromandel County Council, caused by tho resignation of Mr. John Carroll, Mr. C. E. T. Simpson was the only candidate nominated, and wag declared elected.
