FIGHT WITH A SNAKE.
Two young men were camped close to a station homestead near Casterton (Victoria) last week. One of them made up his bed under the cart. He had not been long asleep when he awakened to find something creeping cold mid clammy up his body, mil r his singlet.
Shivering with shock he jumped up and discovered that it was a large snake. He
gripped and held it for some moments, but could not imprison its head, which it darted in all directions seeking to implant its fangs. At last it managed to bite him on the shoulder, where it was impossible to apply a ligature. The poisoned man was taken by his mate to a neighbouring house, where some remedies were administered, and haste was then made to the nearest doctor. On -lie way the sleeper so rudely awakened nearly "collapsed, and was only restored with considerable difficulty.
