BURGLARS CHOOSE THE WRONG SAFE.
EXPEDITION OVER ROOFS.
A daring burglary took place in Sydney on the night of February 14, when the premises of Messrs. Allen and Hanbury, Limited, 15 and 17, Market-street, were entered.
When the employees arrived at the warehouse next morning they found the ground floor in a state of confusrou. Within the general ofiico two safes stood in one corner —one about 4ft by 3ft, the other 3ft by 2ft. The larger safe contained the only cash on the premises, about £30. Books and documents alone were contained in the second, to which the burglars had turned their attention. They apparently overturned tho safe, and placed a detonator of dynamite in tho keyhole. It was found empty, the books thrown out, and the iron shelves and drawers bent and broken. The safe containing the money remained intact
An inspection of the building and its surroundings was made by Superintendent Rocho and Senior-Sergeant Fullerton, of the Detective Office. they traced tho intruders' entry to a small window on tho top floor. There was evidence of the men having climbed up tho staging and temporary ladders of a building in course of construction several doors down in Kentstreet. From this building they had evidently equipped themselves with tools and a ladder," and then climbed a couple of intervening roofs. From tho last building they fixed the ladder across a fairly wide passage to the window of Allen and Hanbury's top floor, and set to work in professional etyle.
