HOLIDAY Arrangements. ; With ,l the advent /of/the" Christmas"/ an*/ New Year holidays : there has been already a,; large influx of visitors' to Auckland. Hotels and boardinghouse-keepcrs * state; that the number of visitors up to the? present is quit© equal to/ if not in excess of, the number in previous years. Trades-/ . people are anticipating a prosperous time,'. and most of ,them have laid yin .heavy/ stocks, of gQo'dsj'ln.faiiticipation; of record ; business. •■•*** ** »< •■ > i *'.- < ■ j« . -.Special excursions to ■ the> various'f islands /in the harbour have been arranged/and 'the. Railway^ Department is issuing cheap excursion tickets for ; the holiday season.; r The following arrangements : will be ob-i served in the Chief Post Office, Auckland,;. during the Christmas and New Year holidays ':—Christmas , and New . Year's Day will be observed as close holidays. t All mails will be closed oh both days at eight a.m. Loose letters ;for' Australia' may be posted on the steamer up to the time of? departure on January 1, and if or Southern,'' mails on the train up to 6.10 p.m. on both days. On Tuesday (Boxing Day) the office will be open in all branches, except/ Money Order and Savings Bank, from nine a.m. y to 10 a.m. / Mails will close at "i eight a.m. Street letter-boxes will be cleared) at midnight on Monday and Tuesday next. Delivery by letter-carrier* will be made; on ? the afternoons •of ' Saturday and Saturday week. On Tuesday one complete delivery by carrier will be Made, commencing at 7.30 a.m. A delivery of town letters, registered and ordinary, will be made/over . the counter on the- evenings of Saturday, next aad Saturday week. - ;; ' •The Northern Steamship Company an- : nounce the following alterations in the running of ■! steamers during the Christmas / holidays ':—The Aupouri will leave on a/ special trip to Whangarei at 10 p.m. on, Saturday next, returning to Auckland oil Sunday evening while ; the Clansman will run a special trip to Whangarei on. Saturday evening, December 30, returning 'on the Sunday evening. There will be no steamers leaving for any of ; the coastal ports on Monday, December ; 25. |- The Clansman will leave for all Northern ports at three p.m. on Wednesday, December 27, returning to Auckland on Saturday, December 30. : The Apanui will leave ; Auckland for Houhora direct at two ; p.m., on December 27, instead of Monday next,, arriving back at Auckland on Sunday evening, December 31. The Waiotahi will sail for Mercury Bay and way ports at six p.m. on Friday, December 29, and arrive iback here on Sunday ; morning, December 31. After to-morrow there will be no steamer for ' Tauranga until Thursday, afternoon, December 28. /■ On Wednesday, December 27, the Ngatiawa: will be despatched for Tauranga and Opotiki, arriving back here on the - following Saturday, morning. She will not take any; cargo ; for Tauranga. , v The Tasman will leave for. Whakatane on the 27th inst., ' and arrive back hero on December 30. There will be no steamer leaving for. Whangarei' out Sunday, December 31.
