FRIENDLY SOCIETY PEES.

A meeting of the Auckland Hospital and Charitable Aid Board was held last even-, ing, there being present: Messrs. P. M« Mackay (chairman), F. J. IT. Ellisdon, M. J. Coyle, J. Jenkin, P. J. Nerheny, E. H. Potter, J. 0. Rutherford, Dr. Guinness, and J. S. Dickson, M.P. Dr. Pabst, chairman of the honorary medical staff, was also present. A letter was received from the matrons of St. Mary's Home, Otahuhu, the Door, of Hope, and the Salvation Army's maternity Homes, stating that it was their intention to strictly adhere in tho future to the rule not to receive into their homes any girl whom they' had previously had. as an inmate. It was considered that girls who had had a fair chance of reformation, such as was offered in their homes and who fell again, were, with few exceptions, mentally or morally weak or both. It was considered that there was a distinct lino of. demarcation between them and persons normally constituted, and it was felt that they must not fill their institutions! with girls who whilst deriving no benefit themselves were calculated to do harm to other inmates. The letter was referred to the Charitable Aid Committee. ; The- Finance Committee reported -'that' accounts, for the * month of ;; November, amounting to £5613, had been passed for payment. Mr. Nerheny stated that several mem-, bers of the Friendly Societies' were under, the impression that some members •of an Order could take advantage of the concessions in ■*! hospital * fees granted ' r , to Friendly .Societies, and. that other mem--bers of the same Order, who made no conn tribution to the hospital. fund ; of their society, could escape from payment altogether.
