MEETINGS.
AUCKLAND FARMERS' UNION.
The first meeting of the newly-formed branch of the Farmers' Union at Bombay was held on Saturday, there being a good attendance. The following officers were elceted:— Mr. W. H. Thomas; vice-president, Mr. H. Sawyer ; secretary, Mr. G. Clarke; treasurer, Mr. J. Wallace; auditor, Mr. W. K. Cornthwaite ; committee, Messrs. H. Wyatt, J. S. Rudd, A. Best, A. French, and W. Flay.
CITY SCHOOLS', COMMITTEE. The City Schools' Committee met last night. Present : Messrs. F. E. N. Gaudin (chairman), G. T. Langley,, J. F. W. Mayn, Win. Millar, J. C. Sharpies, E. Sherson, and J. Trevethick. The resignation of Mr. W. Kay, assistant-master at the Beresford-street School, was received. The chairman expressed regret at the loss of Mr. Kay,. and it was decided to send the departing master a letter of appreciation of his services. • The name of one teacher was recommended by the Education Board to fill the vacancy caused by Mr. Kay's resignation, and members of the committeo expressed disapproval of the Board's action in forwarding only one name, instead of three or four, from which the committee could make a selection. It was decided to write to the Education Board protesting against its action. It was decided to approach the Educate Board, asking for a refund of the water accounts, as had been done in the case of a suburban school.
EDEN.TERRACE ROAD BOARD. The usual meeting of the Eden Terrace Road Board was held last night. There were present: Messrs. G. A. Coles (chairman), H. Good, P. McLachlan, P. MoEl wain, L. Dodds, and H. Butler. A letter was received from the Board's engineer stating that the plans for the drainage scheme would be ready early in the New Year. It was decided to again call the attention of the Tramways Company to the necessity of making Rose-street a compulsory stop for tram-oars. In view of the fatal accident in Queen-street, whereby a young man lost his life through a hoarding blowing over, it was decided to notify Messrs. Chandler and Co. that a hoarding belonging to them in the Board's district was, in the opinion of the Board, dangerous, and requesting the company to lower same.
LOYAL FOUNTAIN OP FRIENDSHIP LODGE. The usual meeting of the Loyal Fountain of Friendship Lodge, No. 3920, 1.0.0. F., M.U., was held last evening, the Noble Grand, Bro. W. E. Murphy, presiding. Two now member wore initiated. Officers for the ensuing six months were elected as follows:—N.G., Bro. A. Ritchie ; V.G., Bro. J. C. Raine ; E.S., Bro. Cartwright; and L.M., Bro. F. Martin, P.G. It was decided to hold the next meeting on January 16, and the lodge closed with fraternal good wishes for the New Year.
