THE NEW TOWN HALL.
A CHILDREN'S GATHERING.
TO BE HELD TO-DAY.
The civic festivities in connection with tho opening, of tho new Town Hall will bo continued at 11 o'clock this morning, when a monster children's gathering will be held: in-.the great hall. The Mayor (Mr. C. J. Parr) will preside, and His Excellency tho Governor (Lord ; Islington) will be present.
Speeches on civic ideals and patriotism will bo delivered by the Governor, tho Mayor, and the chairman of tho Auckland Education Board (Mr. G. J. Garland), and tho chief inspector of schools (Mr. E. K. Mulgan, M.A.).
A feature of tho gathering will be tho playing of several fine selections on the grand organ by Mr. J. Maugham Barnett, the Wellington city organist, and tho children, to tho accompaniment of the organ, will sing tho National Anthem. Tho children attending the gathering will bo drawn from the different city ana suburban schools, viz., Beresford-street, Napier-street, Nelson-street, Chapel-street, Normal and Model, Ponsonby, Richmond Road, Bayfield, Mount Roskill, Ellerslie, Epsom, Grey Lynn, Mount Albert, Mount Eden, Edendale, Onohunga, Tiemuera, Devonport, Newmarket, Newton East, Newton West, Northcote, Parnell, Stanley Bay, Grafton, Avondale, and New Lynn. As it is impossible to accommodate all the children attending these schools, only those in tho higher classes will attend the ceremony, and thev will require to bo in their places not "later than 10.55 a.m. Provision has been made for tho seating of the headmasters and their wives on the platform.
