At the Magistrate's Court this morning Granville Hunt, alias Hume Jones, was charged with forging the name of W. 11. Nash to a promissory-note for £142 to Wright-.. Stevenson and Co., due to November 1,; ,1910. On the application of the police the accused was remanded to appear at Wellington. ' >s'" Hunt for some months past had been employed a store at Kihikihi, where, under the name of Hume Jones, he made many friends, and was very popular. Hear* ing that a warrant 'for his arrest was likely to be executed, by a flank movement ho escaped through a window and evaded the police for some days. He was eventually captured by Constable Ryan, of Kihikihi. On the way to Kihikihi, when crossing the Waipa River on a. led Horse, Hunt slipped off into the river, but was again secured.
