TIRED OF NEW ZEALAND.
"FED UP WITH THE COUNTRY." " I am a reputable citizen, and very wellknown in Auckland," said Arthur Lotte, when charged in tho Police Court on Saturday with drunkenness. Continuing, he said he had been to a political meeting, and afterwards had had a couplo of drinks, "just in ft convivial way." It was very trivial. Tho 6ub-inspoctor asked that the man be prohibited. Accused: "Oh no,. Your Worships! Don't do that. I know the law is very harsh in this country, - and the country is getting such that no reputable citizen will bo able to stop in it. At any rate I'm, ' fed up' with it, and am clearing out of it." Sub-Inspector hendrey : "As far as I can make out, the man is a regular nuisance, and if he is leaving in a month, a prohibition order will keep him sober in the meantine." Accused (indignantly) : "I'm not a nuisance. I'm a reputable citizen. I'm a representative of the London Times, and I hope the press will make a note of my remarks. Might I place the sub-inspector in the box and make him prove his, statements, which are entirely uncalled for?" Tho sub-inspector did not accept the invitation, and the prohibition order was issued.
