" GIRLS' FRIENDLY"/ SOCIETY.„ ; The 27th annual meeting of the Girls'', • Friendly Society was held at;, the - Girls* Friendly,SocietyLodge on Thursday, in the presence of a large number, of ladies i and ';',• some of the clergy. The Bishop of Auckland was in the chair. The gross receipts were shown to be £1235 v4s 4d, and the ',; gross expenditure £1216 15s 3d. The special, rent funds showed receipts £188 2s 3d, expenditure £113 18s 2d, leaving a balance) of £74 4s Id. Mrs. Crossley. gave Va n' earnest address, audi Miss Bagnall read -a; \ paper on" Discipline.' » The Bishop; spoke* i at some length on the splendid work of. the Girls' Friendly Society, ■ and urged upon the council the necessity! of starting a fund for a permanent building. ■ It was ' then announced that* an anonymous dorian tioii of four figures had been given as a} nucleus of a permanent building fund,. HEADMASTERS' ASSOCIATION. I The las', meeting of the Headmasters*' : -s Association < for ,1911, took ; place at., th« Normal' School; at 7.45 p.m. on Friday* Mr. H. G. Cousins, M.A., presided over; a good attendance of member*, who as* | sembled to meet the chief inspector in.- dis-t - cussing staffing of schools and other topics, Mr. Cousins congratulated Mr, Lambourne, headmaster, of • Mangere. Bridge school, on his promotion to the position of inspector and wished him success on behalf ' of the , association. A sub-committee reported on\; the inadequacy of the present scale ioE . staffing the ■ schools, and ;■■ made f interesting '.:.?:■ suggestions for improvement. Mr. Mulgan expressed heartiest sympathy with the endeavour to obtain a more ' generous scale) "of staffing in the schools. '■/.: ■ • AUCKLAND . BROTHERHOOD.
