' The monthly meeting iof 'the WaihJ : Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. John Neycth); presiding. .Declarations were received announcing tho purchase within the borough of 12,9470z of gold, and the manager of the National .Bank intimated that Treasury remittances to be placed to the credit of the district fund account included gold duty £775 33 9d, water supply to Railway Department £5, sanitary fees £1 4s and £6 9s, gas sup- ■; ply £1 13s 9d, a total of £783 10s 6d. A] remittance of; £250 of the ' annual grant to ■ the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board for hospital maintenance was passed. That district fund "account showed a debit! balance of £11,352. The Gas Committee reported that the stokers at the municipal gasworks had applied --fo* an increase of wages to £3 12s 6d per week up to March 31 next, after whicli they asked for. £3 155, with double time oil Good Friday, Miners' Union Day, : and) Christmas Day, with 14 days' holiday each) year on full pay. , The committee made no ; recommendation on this point, and the re-* port, as read, was adopted. _ A > public meeting - will be held in tho Academy Theatre our Monday evening, under the auspices of the Ohiuemuri Re-< storation League. Addresses will be de-* livered in favour of the restoration of. licenses for the sale of'spirituous; liquors. ' The monthly meeting of the WaihJ School of Mines Council was held last evening, Mr. Thos. Gilmour (chairman) presiding. The Mines Department wrote advising the passing of a subsidy of £119 16s 9d towards the; maintenance of the school.' The director's (Mr. A. H. V., Morgan) report gave the number of' stun ■• dents at* 63, and the class attendance as 123, and stated that the examination of students for certificates in the various : branches would commence 'during the' coming week. Accounts, totalling £66,0s Id were passed for payment, and Messrs. A. H. Benge and T. L. Gilmour were appointed the visiting committee for "December. Liddle, k " of Onewhero, and Miss Mabel' Clarke, daughter of Mr. ; John Clarke, :of Pukekawa. After the ceremony- a wedding breakfast was served to about 50 ' guests, at the residence -of the bride's father. :. In the evening, :at the • invitation of Mr. Clarke, about 100 guests assemble* in the hall, which was decorated for the, occasion, - and ' dancing, intermingled with musical items, was proceeded with until am early hour in the morning. In their report on the recent test of the water bore, Messrs. Metcalfe , «nd Son condemned I tho scheme, as the water was of inferior' quality and not sufficient: for a, growing town like Frankton. They suggested that the Board ehould combine with the J, Hamilton : . Borough Council to - instal a comprehensive scheme from the Waikato River.:: * After a lengthy discussion it was decided ? to ask : Mr° Suggate, of Auckland, to report on the ; bore and its suitability for the purpose of * water ': supply.
