An accumulation of gases given off by the waters of , Bradford Beck, which is a bricked-up stream polluted by waste chemicals, exploded, doing tremendous damage. .The Armitage dye works, Bradford, was wrecked. Eight hundred employees, chiefly girls, stampeded. One labourer was killed and 20 persons were injured. An area of 15 acres is affected and .the damage amounts ■to . £30,000. /
