SMOKING.

Sir, —Is smoking pernicious? For some it may be; for others it may be beneficial. Personally for many years 1 abstained absolutely from the use of tobacco, aud during that time I was nfever tree from indigestion. Since resuming, i am free from its attacks, and I attribute the improvement to a pipe after every meal; but why I write to you is to protest against its too frequent use. The habit to growing youths of too much cigarette-smoking must be- very detrimental. It is not required for their well-being or physical development, and moat of our . medical authorities are dead against it. T.W.L. Unehunga, November 27.
