• NEWMARKET. The Newmarket Borough Council met last night. Present: The Mayor (Mr. D. Teed) and Messrs. ,W.Fookes,vS. Donaldson, J. W. Jaffrey, A. E. Whittome, F. J. O'Meara, C. Leek,- Jas. ' , . The Mayor pointed but' that the approach of summer necessitated a campaign against rats. He' said '; the Council's''., inspector was devoting a good ideal of time to this matter, and he thought i, the. inspector should receive every assistance; ;; The tender of Mr. 'Brooks ''at £42 15a was accepted for the .drainage of Morrow-. street. The formation of the footpaths Were authorised. : A complaint was voiced that the City Council's sprinkler, t which was/due: in Newmarket at 7.30 a-m., ' arrived ; on two recent dusty mornings at 10.30 ■ a.m. ,

It was - decided to inform the Marino Department 1 that the Onehunga Borough' Council and the Mangere Road Board were ? prepared to make provision for a'lifting span in the proposed new Mangere bridge, but would not .acknowledge any responsibility therewith. The district health <i officer approved >of the fixing of a minimum building area in that portion of One-tree Hill district re* cently taken into the borough, and said he would like to see the same minimum applied to the whole of the borough. It was resolved to''defer '-', arrangements in connection with the opening of the Coronation 'Hall, until the Ambulance tion is ready. / '..;'. -< • Mr. Dillicar was granted five weeks* leave of absence, as he is about 'to visit Australia.
