PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH.
THE GENERAL ASSEMBLE. - [BT TELKGRAPH.— ASSOCIATION Dunedin, Friday. At the Presbyterian General Assembly, today the Rev. J. H. Mackenzie was appointed junior clerk. The Foreign Missons Committee recommended the sanctioning of an appropriation of £800 for the erection of a double manse in Canton. The recommendation was adopted. The committee recommended approval of the proposal to devote £500, bequeathed by the late Mr. A. Anderson, towards the erection of Ambrim Hospital. The Rev. W. J. Comrie informed the Assembly that the amount available was only £450. (reduced by stamp: duties). ■ The'recommendation >vaa approved, the sum being altered to £450. Another recommendation was to increase the salaries of missionaries in India and China. The recommendation was adopted, and it was resolved that the committee be instructed to revise the salaries of missionaries in the New Hebrides. The recommendation to appoint the Rev. T. Handle missionary for India wius agreed to. A final recommendation for appointing Mr. P. Milne missionary for Canton was approved. The Rev. A. Miller moved the adoption of the Temperance Committee's report. It was decided ,to express approval of the new Licensing Bill, and strongly urge a solid vote for local no-license and Dominion prohibition.
