STANDARDISED CREDIT.
A BANK OF EMPIRE SCHEME. TO MANAGE COLONIAL LOANS. ' By Telegraph.—Press Association.—Copyright ; London, November 9. v. The Financial News advocates a Bank of Empire for centralising the machinery for issuing colonial loans. The paper says that if a colony now contemplates borrowing it is practically compelled to accept the terms its bank dictates. The Empirebank's managers and directors would be able to standardise colonialcredit. Mr. Fisher's Commonwealth Bank, * adds the Financial News, is no step in this direction," since it is destined • to compete, with existing institutions, and it is almost inevitable that the experiment will end in disaster. Non-Government banks are taxed to - keep their blundering competitor on its ricketty feet.
