BOWLING.
TOURNAMENT AT GREY LYNN. Six teams took part in the Grey Lynn tournament on Monday, which after a most enjoyable day's play resulted in a win for a _ team skipped by E. E. Buckley, jun., with one loss and four wins. The other members of the winning rink were Gavin, Grookbain, and Prickett. The Grey Lynn Winter Green has now been closed, and the summer green will be informally opened for play on November 4. The annual "At Home" will be held on. December 9.
CARLTON TOURNAMENT. An all-day tournament took place on Labour Day at the Carlton winter green, eight full-rink teams taking part, as follows: Parker, Thornes, D. McGregor, Martin (skip); Packman, Hemus, Laurie, V. Casey (skip); Cottrcll, Arcy, R. McGregor, Prof. Walker (skip); Livesey, M. Casey, Ledingham, Kilgour (skip); J. M. Thomson, Kent, McLean. Wilson (skip) : Sloman, Healy, Lamb, Eagletou (skip); Foggarty, Diddams, Gillies, Osmond (skip); Perry, Cahill, Flower, Fookes (skip). The tournament resulted in a tie between Cottrell, Arey, R. McGregor, Prof. Walker (skip) and Livesey, M. Casey. Ledingham, Kilgour (skip), each team having five wins and two losses, and dividing the prize. NGARUAWAHIA CLUB. [IJY TBLEfrKAPH. OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Ngabtjawahia, Tuesday. At the annual meeting of the Ngaruawahia Rowing Club on Saturday the balance-sheet for the year showed a credit of £21 12s 4d, while the assets wero £214 and the liabilities nil. The election of officers resulted as —President, Mr. Lang, M.P.; vicepresidents, Messrs. Morris, A. Draffin, W. Edkins, Father Cahill, and T. Raynor; captain, Mr. F. Parker; secretary, Mr. 0. Glasson; treasurer, Mr. J. Cavanagh; junior committee, Messrs. Calder, W. Simpson, and Fullor; selection committee, Messrs. M. Jones. W. Parker, W. Fuller, junr. It was decided to open the season on Saturday, November 4, and to invito the Hamilton, Huntly, Taupiri, and Mercer Clubs to attend.
RIVERHEAD SEASON OPENED. Tho River ho ad Bowling Club celebrated the opening of their bowling season on Labour Day. The members since last season have worked Lard, and increased the green by 10ft., their enthusiasm going so far as to carry a 35ft kauri tree several miles through hush and scrub on their shoulders, which, after stripping and painting, they erected as «, 'flagstaff. It is also a sight to see them any evening rolling the green with a 35cwt roller made by themselves. Members of the AY est End, Victoria, and Waitemata Bowling Clubs journeyed from Auckland by launch 011 Labour Day, and were, conveyed to the Riverhead bowling green, where the residents and _ visitors from Taupaki, Hobsonville, and Kuraeu had gathered. Mr. R. A. Barton (manager of the New Zealand Paper Mills), in an opening speech, welcomed the visiting players, and expressed the hope that they would enjoy a good game. He then declared the green open, and Mr. Chas. Greenhalg a ran a flag, light and drak blue, with the initials R.8.C.. which had previously been presented by tho est End Club, to the mast-head, amid cheers. During tho afternoon refreshments were handed round. At the close of the match Mr. 0. Johnson (President of the R.8.C.) made a speech, which -w as replied to by Messrs. Reed "(West End). Raynes (Victoria), and Elston (Waitemata), each of whom congratulated the members of the R.B.C. on tho splendid condition of the green. The result of the play is as follows:.— Irvine, 0. After the match an all-nicrht social and dance was held in the schoolroom. Several songs -were given between the dances, and everyone spent an enjoyable night.
