APPLES FOR EXPORT.
INCREASED * STATE ; subsidy.
[ll MtBCftAPH.— CORRESPONDENT.) . Wellington, Monday. A guarantee against ; loss on shipments of apples made next season from New Zealand to Europe, haa again been offered to exporters by the New Zealand Government. In advising Mr. G. Witty (Riccarton) of this decision, the Minister for Commerce states that the * maximum amount payable under the guarantee for the season's export, has been increased from £315 to £415, and the terms of the offer are the same as last season."; The apples must be of varieties approved' by the Department's inspector, packed in Tasmania or peacock cases, and graded to the satisfaction of the Department's inspector. The fruit must be shipped in cold storage, arrangements for shipment to, and sale in Europe, being made by the 'exporters, who must give facilities to the High Commissioner's officers for inspecting and reporting on the fruit on arrival, and while it is on sale. The amount guaranteed to each grower will be the net return of Id per lb on the fruit forming his part of, the shipment, but if the maximum amount of the guarantee does not yield Id per lb to each grower, it will be distributed pro rata. In calculating the amount to be deducted for expenses, New Zealand freights and wharf charges, and the cost of wrapping paper, "will be taken into consideration, but the cost of the case and of the labour employed in packing will not be taken into account. -
