AN OLD MAN'S DEATH.

DECEASED NOT IDENTIFIED.

An old man, apparently about 65 years of age,; was walking along High-street at noon on Saturday, when be was ' Been to fall suddenly backwards. Some paesers-by went to his assistance, and carried him into premises near by, but he'died almost immediately. Within five minutes Dr. Monk, of the Health Department, was in attendance, but could only pronounce life extinct, , The cause of death is believed to be heart trouble.

Up to last night the police had " been unable to find the name of deceased, although diligent inquiries had been made. The deceased ie described as being sft lOin in height, and of medium build. His complexion is fair, the ©yes being gray, while his hair is fair and turning gray, and he had a short gray beard and moustache. He had artificial teeth in both the upper and lower jaws. A boil mark was visible on the outer left wrist, and another was seen three inches from the elbow. Deceased -was - dressed in a greenishcoloured jacket, with imitation crocodile leather buttons. The coat was unlined, and similar to a Norfolk jacket, and was made by H. J. Nicoll and Co., Ltd., London and Paris. He had on gray tweed trousers, with a green stripe running through. On the white Cambridge shirt worn by deceased were the word " Hagg and C 33, written in indelible ink on the inside of the - collar. The woollen singlet had the initials "S.H." written on it, and the socks had the initial " H." He wore a green tweed cap, and carried a bamboo cane with a crook handle.

Deceased had only the .sum of 5s 6d in his pockets, but from his , appearance he gave the impression of being in comfortable circumstances, all his clothes being of good quality. It is surmised that he had only recently arrived from Home, and possibly had been staying at some hotel or boardinghouse.

The Coroner will hold an inquest at two o'clock this afternoon at the Criterion Hotel.
