J r 'A PP3UC meeting called by the Leamington Town Board was held at Leamington an Friday evening to consider the Board 3 proposal to take a vote on the question of borrowing £600'""for. the purpose of acquiring two acres, of land in , the township of Leamington and erecting thereon a public hall and town board offices; also, to discuss the question of adopting rating on the unimproved values, in connection with which a poll of ratepayers is to be taken. Mr. W. White (chairman of the Board! presided. There was a moderate attendance. The chairman explained the proposal in regard to the town hall loan, and reported that the necessary steps had already been taken to acquire the land under the Public Works Act. No discussion unfavourable to the proposal took place. The chairman introduced the matter of rating on the unimproved value, saving that the Board, having been petitioned by the prescribed number of ratepayers, had no option but to take a poll. * He explained that to realise an equal revenue to that obtained from the existing rate of fd' in the £ on Ihe capital value, it would be necessary tinder the unimproved system to levy a rate of l|d in the £. The poll on both the above questions will be taken on Wednesday, ISth inst. Mr." Munro Wilson, C.E., arrived in Cambridge on Friday afternoon. The object of his visit is to report on the proposal to bring water from Maungakawa to ihe .reticulation area.

The district railway engineer wrote asking if the Board would agree to the dedication of a strip of land adjoining the road through Mrs. Jolly's property. This was agreed to. The" State-guaranteed Advances' Office wrote stating it could not at present entertain the application for a loan of £7500 Vor which a poll is to be taken on Monday for constructing electrical works. Accounts amounting to £219 were passed tor payment.

The quarterly meeting of the Methodist Church in this district was held at the parsonage on Wednesday. - here was a large attendance of officials. The Sundayschools were reported to be in a flourishing condition, also the minister's Bible class. The reports on the work from all parts of the circuit were of a most gratifying nature, those from the outposts particularly so. The stewards reported a credit- balance. Arrangements were made for the circuit anniversary in December. Rev. G. F. Stock-well, who is completing his third year in the circuit, received a most hearty and unanimous invitation to remain for "a fourth year, many ,of the officials testifying to his work and worth. Whilst thanking the brethren Mr. Stockwell could not see his way clear to accept the invitation. 4 " The matter of a successor was left in the hands of Conference.
