(Sir Joseph Ward) said that the revenue of; the Poet and Telegraph Department of New Zealand was the highest of any country in the world in proportion (to population. It exceeded £1,000,000 last year, equal to £1 per head of population. Ninety-six and a-half million letters were posted in New Zealand last year, and over 100,000,000 were delivered. In addition to this, nearly B,ooo t ooo postcards and 24,000,000 newspapers were delivered.
