CRUELTY TO A CAT.

FOUR MEN FINED. At Nowcwtlo (N.S.W.) last week four men were each fined £5, with the- alternative of a month's hard labour, for cruelty to a cat. The evidence for the prosecution was to tho effect that, because it had killed a couple of pigeons, thoy tied one end of a rope- round the cut's neck, and tho other to a clothes prop, and then set dogs on to it till it was worried to death. Tho defence was that they lassooed the cat out of tho pigeons' box, and killed it with an axe. Notice of appeal against tho magistrate's decision was given by defendants.
