The full High Court to-day commenced the hearing of the case Osborne v. The Commonwealth, for the purpose of testing the validity of the Land Tax and Land Tax Assessment Act. TWO MINERS KILLED. (Received May 23, 11.41 p.m.) Sydney, May 23. A fatal blasting accident occurred in th« Kangiara mine, near Yass, to-day. Two miners named Wright and Edmunds, were killed, and another seriously injured.' While engaged in. drilling the men struck a neglected charge of dynamite, and an explosion followed. THE WOODLUPINE SUSPECT, (Received May 24. 1 a.m.) Perth, May 23. The man David Smithson, an ex-tram conductor, suspected of the murder of the girl Compton at Woodlupine, was captured in the bush near Elsternwick, 100 miletf north of Perth to-day. THE CENSURE DEBATE, (Received May 24, 1 a.m.)' Sydney, May 23. The Government is determined to clos# the censure debate this week. Mr. Storey, leader of the Independents, announced that his party objected to some of the Govern- . ment proposals, but was willing to give them a show. He appealed for the crea* tion of a Moderate party drawn from both sides of the House to carry on the Govern* ment. MOULDED HOUSES. Sydney, May" 23. The Government has received a cabl® from Mr. Edison, in reply to an enquiry, stating that the moulded house invention has not quite reached the commercial stage. BANKING RETURNS. Sydney, May 23. The Australian banking averages forth# March quarter show thai the excess of deposits over advances increased by 25£ to 28millions. The total deposits are. now £164,762,067, an increase for the year; of £14,744,558. STRIKERS' PLACES PILLED. Brisbane, May 23. A strike occurred at tho gasworks ovep the company refusing to reinstate the president of the union.! The president* gave provisional notice, and then wished to retract. Meantime the company filled the positions of the 40 men on .strike. That works will be closed for three , days, foijwhich a supply of gas has been stored..
