ABSENT ON SICK LEAVE.
A SCALE APPROVED.
A proposal was made by Mr. Murray, in accordance with notice of motion, that the Board should adopt a scale as a standard for granting leave of absence on full pay to teachers on account of illness only, as follow* : —Up to live years' service, maximum, two weeks; over five and up to 10 years' service, maximum, one month; over 10 and up to 15 years' service, maximum, two months; over 15 and up to 25 years' service, maximum, three months; over 25 years' service, maximum, four months. Mr. Murray also proposed that under exceptional circumstances, an exteneion of the scale might be granted by the unanimous vote of the members present at any meeting of the Board, and that, should leave of absence for one month or more have been granted to any teacher at any time, that fact should be taken into consideration in any application for future leave. >
Mr. Murray said thai the proposal was not the result of any complaint among the Board's employees, for the teachers had almost unanimously expressed themselves as gratified with the manner in which the Board had treated them. His intention was to provide a basis upon which the Board could work, and to gite to the teachers a, feeling of security by indicating to them the amount of leave 'which they could expect. The motion was seconded by Mr. Wallace, and carried.
