COMPETITION IN STOREKEEPING.
IK a statement furnished to the official assignee Frederic James Dooll, storekeeper, of Matangi, attributes his bankruptcy to toe keenness of competition in the storjkecpmg business. He commenced business atMatangi at the beginning of last year, purchasing a store for £200. The whole of the capital was lent him by his father. Owing to the cutting of prices in Hamilton, he was compelled to lower his prices, and the business was run at a loss. The debts (all unsecured) amount to £413 5s 4d, and the assets to £94 0s 9d (including stock-in-trade £70), leaving a deficiency of £319 4s Id. The creditors for ever £50 are F. Dooll, Christchuroh, £108; A. H. Nathan and Co., Auckland, £99 8s 2d; . Ellingham and Co., Auckland, "£77. '' ' ' ' RUINED BY A FIRE. A meeting of the creditors of G. T. Wilson, engineer, was held yesterday at the office of the official assignee. The only creditors present were Messrs. Hoar© and McCoskrie. J. he official assignee (Mr. Fisher) stated that the bankrupt's assets amounted to £60; the liabilities £293. Bankrupt said ho came from Australia, and started business in Auckland four years ago. In 1909 he had a disastrous fire and although obtaining . £288 as insurance, he only received £94, the rest going in solicitors' fees. He was now working for a firm at £2 5s a week. He made no offer. The meeting was adjourned sine die.
