LAWN TENNIS.
February 18—Auckland v. Taranaki. The ex-Aucklander J. C. Peacock must have been playing in the top of his form at tlie New Zealand championships this week. His many friends her© were glad to hear of his successes in the singles and doubles. Peacock's most meritorious win was secured from Parker in tho semi-final, which he secured decisively by three sets to one. About, eight years 3 go, when both Parker and Peacock were living in Auckland, they met. on several occasions in the local championship, but. the former always managed to win, though more than once Peacock was far from well when lit' met the redoubtable Parker. Since those days Parker has been round the world a few times, and has-played 111 all tho important tournaments. No one will begrudge the ex-Ponsonby player his victories, for there is no better sport in tho whole Dominion. After their fine play here last year, it is easy to understand how Peacock and Fisher demolished Parker and Quill in the final of the doubles in straight S<> Tho Wellington lady, Miss Travers, must have, been playing in excellent form to secure such easy wins from Miss Wellwood in the final and Miss Nunnelly in the semifinal. I am inclined to think that had Miss Powdrell Ix'on competing at the tourney she would have had all her work cut out to retain her title. Scan. Doust., the well-known Australian player, leaves for England scon' to settle there permanently.
