That the present meeting of the Auckland Trotting Club will easily prove a record financial success, is now assured, for the opening programme shows an increase of £16644 in totalisator investments compared with the first day of last year. On Wednesday afternoon, when the five races, adjourned from the previous day, werS run off, the trotting was of a high order, with keen finishes rewarding the efforts of the handicapper.
Next Saturday the three-year-old crack, Dillon Bell, will essay to lift the purse of 250sovs offered for any horse capable of trotting two miles at Alexandra Park in 4m. 31s. or under. In the event of Dillon Bell failing to accomplish this record, but breaking 4m. 415., he will receive lOOsovs. Last year the Wild wood horso I'apanui, off 95., acted as runner-up to Havoc (It's.) in the Auckland Trotting Cup, registering a. performance eqiml to about 4m. 525. On Wednesday, Papanui, scratch, again filled second place, this time behind Floranz, who put up a new time record for the cup. Papanui on. this occasion trotted about 4m. 46j5., a splendid performance. The longest trotting race of the year figures on to-day's programme, when the Epsom Handicap of threo miles will bo contested by eleven useful horses, including that fine stayer, Scotia. Although only seven remain in the Ranfurly Class Trot, one mile, this afternoon, tho class is good. This race should provide ,a stirring finish.
