MEETINGS.
SAILORS' HOME COUNCIL.
The monthly meeting of the Auckland Sailors' Home Council was held, last night, those present being .the president (Mr. T. Gresham), Captain Fleming, Dr. '.King, and Messrs. P. J. Nerheny, E. Phipps, and E. H. Potter. Mr. W. Webb, who conducted meet-, ings in the Mission Hall on Tuesday nights, reported that these were being largely attended. The question of increasing the weekly boarders' charges on account of the increased cost of provisions was deferred until after the close of the present year.
WOMEN'S POLITICAL LEAGUE. A meeting of the Women's Political League was held on Thursday afternoon, Mrs. Kirkby ■ Much satisfaction was expressed at the long-expected repeal of the obnoxious C.D. Act. It was decided to congratulate the Hon. W. Bqehan on his action in having fish included in the Trusts Bill; also that the thanks of the league be sent to Dr. Findlay in connection with the Gaming and Licensing Acts. A letter received from the Inspector-General of Hospitals refuted the notion held by many people that only single women are eligible under the country district scheme for free training at St. Helens Hospitals. Dr. Valintine stated that any woman, married or Bingle, under 40 years of age, may, if recommended by Hospital Board of her district as a suitable person, receive free training. At the conclusion of the meeting a handsome silver cake basket, suitably inscribed, was presented to Mrs, Gibson toy tne League, as a mark of esteem and appreciation of her services as secretary.
