WAIHI. [B* TBIjEGRAI'3.—OWN CORRESPONDENT.] Waihi, Friday. The monthly meeting . of the Waihi Borough Council was held last evening, the Mayor (Mr. John Newth) presiding. Treasury remittances were announced as follows :—Sanitary and gas (courthouse), 163 5s 8d; goldfields revenue to October 1, £654 8s 3d; sanitary and water service (police station), £3 9s; gold duty (October), £863 4s; sanitary service (railway), £2. Declarations covering the purchase of 17,94107, of gold within the borough were received. The district fund accounts showed a debit balance of £12,458 Os Bd, which, with the accounts presented made the total debit £13,820 6s Id. The gold duty outstanding was given as £1794 2s. The engineer, in the course of his. report, stated that the road to the Waihi Beach would be in order for public traffic on Wednesday, November 30, and the Council decided to open the road on the date mentioned. The Waihi Liedertafel gave their final concert of the season in the Miners' Union Hall last evening, before a large and appreciative audience. The principal soloist was Miss Lizzie Knight, of Auckland, whose pleading and well-tuned soprano voice was heard to advantage in "When the Heart is Young," and the bracketed numbers, "Our Little Love" and "Golden Dawn." Encores were emphatically demanded. The other soloists were Messrs. N. Warren and N. Benge, both of whom acquitted themselves creditably. Other items to find warm favour were those contributed by the Lyric Quartette. The society, under the conductorship of Mr. Tracy Knight, were well received in their well-chosen range of pieces, and the accompaniments were efficiently played by Mrs. Budd and Miss Morgan. The concert was undoubtedly the beet of the season.
