v : . : TAUMA^UNUI. [Br telegraph.—owir corkespondent.] Tadmardndi, Wednesday. The Manunui Presbyterian Church bazaar realised nearly £70. Subscriptions for the Taumarunui fire brigade amount to about £40. ' A big fancy dress parade and football match was held to-day by the combined band and fire brigade. Several, of the recent fire claims have been already settled, and preparations are bein? made to rebuild the structures destroyed. An acetlylene gas plant has lately been installed in the railway. station, and is working quite satisfactorily. The townships down the line, Manunui and Owhango, are establishing forms of local government, the former a town board and the latter a domain board. The formation of the Kaitieke County is strenuously opposed by certain sections of the proposed county. Settlers in the Hunua Block object to inclusion, and prefer forming a part of the future laumarunui County. The Rev. Father Molloy fell from his horse recently, and had the misfortune to break his leg. An additional summer train (36 hours between Auckland and Wellington) would be of considerable advantage to Taumarunui, which would bo the stop-over place for both trains. The Roman Catholic mission, just concluded has been very successful. Father Whelan conducted it. Preparations are complete for the Anglican bazaar to take place on Fiiday and Saturday. WAIHI.
