Tub installation of Bro. Tlios. Black and the office-hearers of Lodge Taupiri, No. 118, N.Z.C., took place in the Masonic Hall, Huntly, on Thursday night, when the large attendance of local Freemasons was augmented by the following Grand Ledge office-bearers: - M.W. Bro. Oliver Nicholson, Provincial Grandmaster, R. W. Jito. G. N. Rowley, P.D G.M., and Wor. lit W. Reid, P.C.5.8., and by sonic 30 visitors from Auckland ami neighbouring lod"es, those of BetaWaikato, No. 12. and Tawliiri, No. 166, being well represented. The lodge having been duly opened, and the visiting brethren introduced, the representative of Crand Lodge and his officers were received. Thereafter the W.M. elect was presented, and installed into the chair of King Solomon by tho board of installed masters. When the lodge resumed, the now master was presented to the brethren, and proclaimed with tho usual honours in the east, west, and south, the working tools in the. three degrees being ] presented by Wor. Bro. W. If. Pricker, W.M. Lodge Beta, Waikato, No. 12, W. Bro. W. Simpson, P.M., Lodge Taupiri, No. 118, and W. Bro. Cooper, P.M.. Lodge Ponsonby, No. 54, respectively. The W.M. then invested his other officers, Wor. Bros. W. K. Pricker and H. U. l'oynter acting as presenting officers, as follows —D.M., Wor. Bro. (L S. Fleming. P.M. ; 1.P.M., Wor. Bro. Jas. Rock: S.W., Bro. W. Carroll; J.W., Bro. A. Gall : secretary, Bro. T. Spence, (reelected); treasurer, Bro. G. Pea ice (reelected) ; chaplain, Bro. J. Kinson (reelected) : D. of C., Wor. Bro. T. G. Smith (re-elected) ; S.D., Bro. H. Payne (reelected) ; J.D., Bro. W. ."wain; organist, Bro. T. Webster; 1.G., Bro. W. Smith; S.S., Bro. T. McQuillan; J.S., Bro. D. C. Low ; tyler, Bro. F. F. Capstick. A banquet followed, a very pleasant evening being spent with speech, song, and story. A very pleasaing feature was the presentation of a very' handsome past master's jewel to the retiring master, W. Bro. J. Rock, P.M., whose services to Freemasonry in general, and his own lodge in particular, were eulogised by the R.W. Bro. Nicholson, who made the presentation, Bro. Rock acknowledging the same in felicitous terms. In tho southern part of tho township 23 -building sites will be offered for sale by public auction, on the 29th inst. These sections, which belong to the Taupiri South Coal Company, sliotdd find ready purchasers, as house accommodation is still at a premium. The first portion of the new books ordered by the trustees of the public library came to hand this week. The order has been only partially fulfilled, so that further instalments may be expected. The vicar, the Rev. A. J. Beck, who left for Auckland on Thursday for the purpose of attending the meetings of the Anglican Synod, will be absent from his parish till the end of next week. MATAMATA. [FROM OUR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The New Zealand Association paid out their first monthly payment for milk hero oil the 20th, and the whole of the farmers are apparently satisfied and look forward to a record season. A concert was given here on Thursday night to provide funds for liquidating the existing debt on the Anglican Church. There was a. fairly large gathering, and tho amount taken will, with other amounts promised, clear 'off the debt. A movement is on foot to get a telephone established in this township, and the petition with the required number of names has been sent on to tho member for the district. All interested are hopeful that their desire will be gratified. The Bank of New Zealand are about to have- a suitable building erected in tho township in which to do business. Messrs. Gordon and Long are the successful tenderers. Land still continues to change hands hero at. satisfactory priccs both to feller and buyer. PAPAROA. [FROM OFR OWN* CORI&SPONDEN'T.] A gift social in connection with the Paparoa Methodist Ladies' Guild was held in Clip's Hall on Wednesday evening, and was an unqualified success. Vocal and instrumental items were rendered by various well-known artists., and refreshments provided by a committee of ladies well known for their ability in this department. The entrance gifts were displayed on a largo table, and comprised articles both ornamental and useful,. which will materially assist the bazaar to be held on December 14. ALBANY. FROM OUR OWN* CORRESPONDENT.] A most enjoyable and highly successful concert was given before an appreciative audience of about 150 in Albany on Thursday evening in aid of the new show ground. The concert was under the direction of Mr. J. P. Hoot-on, of Auckland, and the following contributed items: Misses J. P. and A, J. Hooton, Lee, and Bradney, Messrs. P. Dufaur, Moody, Hooton, Bradney, and Kddy. At tho close of the concert Mr. Powell, on behalf of the residents of Albany and the audience, in a few well-chosen words thanked tho ladies and gentlemen who had come from Auckland to provide such a musical treat, and also thanked Mr. Bradney and his firm, who had conveyed the party by steamer free of cost to the district. The performers were then entertained to supper in the adjacent church, the party returning to Auckland next morning. A dance was afterwards held in the school. MOIIRIN S VILL'K. [ Kit >:.! CVR OWN CORRESPONDENT.] The local troop of P.M.It. paraded on Tuesday and Thursday, the latter being their ordinary monthly drill, which was well attended, while the former was held for tho purpose of special instruction in signalling work by Sergeant-Major Meikle. A number of local tennis enthusiasts drove over to To Aroha 911 Wednesday to attend the opening of the season, and with such factors as a, fine day, good courts, and a hearty welcome, the result was naturally a'very pleasant outing. The monthly meeting of the Town Board took place 011 Thursday afternoon. Messrs. S. S. Allen (chairman). W. C. Pickett. S. C. Parlour, F. J. Marshall. G. F. Gates, and ,T. Dignan were present. Mr. Spargo wrote resigning his position as town clerk, as he was leaving the district. The chairman, voicing the feeling of the members, received the resignation with regret, and wished Mr. Spargo every success in his new sphere. Mr. C. Boucher was appointed to the position, subject to his finding a security for £75. No tender was received for the sanitary service, and it, was decided to leave further arrangements in the hands of a sub-committee. It was decided to again write to the Prime Minister in regard to the removal of a railway pier from tho centre of Stud-holme-street. Some strong comment was passed 011 the neglect of the Department in not forwarding the subsidy on the rates. It was decided that the chairman write to Sir Joseph Ward and the member for the district drawing their attention to the fact that although all the formalities have been complied with the Board has riot received a subsidy 011 the rates collected since its formation two years ago.
