On the evening of the 18i.h inst., at tho Bungalow, Howick, the friends of Mr. W. H. Thomas, of Bleak House, held a valedictory social evening on the occasion of his leaving the district to settle at Bombay. Mr. Kyd, on behalf of the company, pre--1 sented " Mr. Thomas with a handsome umbrella as a token of their regard. During the evening songs were contributed by Messrs. Wyatt, Fry, Gilr.iour, and Brady. Among the advertisements of the Baptist Churches will l>e found the announcement of an " Echo "* meeting to be held in the Tabernacle next Thursday evening, when delegates to the recent conference at Dunedin will give an account of the gatherings held there. A further notice calls attention to a ten days' mission at the Baptist Church, Otahuhu, to be conducted by the young men of the denomination*
