A still more healthy tone prevailed, on the Auckland Stock Exchange yesterday. Tho improvement which set in in Waihi shares 011 Saturday became even more pronounced, sales being made at. from £6 12s to £6 17s, as compared with £6 lis, tho last, sale made on Saturday. Tho closing quotations were buyers £6 16s 6d, sellers £6 17s. Grand Junctions, which closed with a sale at 37s on Saturday, were also better, l>eing sold at from 37s 9d to 38s to 57s 3d. Further buyers wore loft at, 37s 3d, sellers at 37s 6d. Talismans wero dealt in at 535, and more wero wanted at 52s 9d, with sellers at, 53s 3d. In investment stocks a sale was mado in Auckland Gas (old) at b6s, leaving further buyers at 655, sellers at 675. Taupiri Coals wero done at. 20s 3d.

Shiel and Co., Dunedin, report under date October 3: — We have to report that prices for all citrus fruits have been exceptionally good this last week. Apples have not been so high on account of large quantities coming from llohart, but supplies are easing .somewhat, and we are expecting belter values to rule from this out. Cucumbers: The first of the season arrived and sold at from 10s to 12s 6d per dozen. The quality was good, but slightly on the small side. Tomatoes: We are in receipt of advice of the first of these, which should realise from Is 6d to Is 8d per lb. * Auckland lemons are in poor demand, being worth 4s per case. Oranges: Dump cases, Sydney, 7s. Auckland sweet oranges, from 6s 6d to 7s 6d per case.

WAIKATO SALES. Messrs. Dalgety audi Co., Limited, Hamilton, report as under :— On Thursday, September 29, wo held a most successful sale in the local yards, when a very good yarding of both sheep and cattle came forward, most of which sold readily under tho hummer. Competition all through was good, with the exception of fat wethers, which did not meet with the demand we anticipated. The sheep were a very good quality, well woolled, with plenty of sides, hut 110 doubt owing to the dry ewes being picked out of breeding flocks the market will bo somewhat duller for a month or so. There was a good demand for all young cattle, which fold at satisfactory prises, especially empty dairy heifers. In regard to the cablegram from London yesterday regarding the profit- made by the New Zealand Shipping Company last year, the general manager states that tlie amount of £69,600 included a balance from the preceding year of £13,000.. The sum of £30,000 has been transferred to tho insurance fund and a further dividend declared of 5s per share for six months, making 10s per share for 12 months, and a bonus of 2s s<i per share.
